The duration of the academic year in Pakistani schools is from August to May in the certain private schools and colleges. However, there is much of difference in starting and ending dates of Government and public sector schools. In government schools and many other private schools and colleges, the new session starts from April 1 and goes on to next March. Where the results of students is usually announced on the 31st March.
Different provincial schools and colleges may use different schedule for the starting and ending of session. The full academic year is nine months including the summer, winter and spring breaks.
There are usually two weekly holiday in most of schools and colleges, Saturday and Sunday. However, some schools like many govt schools observe just one weekly holiday and that is Sunday. In addition to these weekly holidays, public holidays are also observed for both students and teachers, in schools and colleges.

Kashmir Day
On Kashmir day unity between Pakistan and Kashmiris is celebrated every February 5th.
Pakistan Day
The historic passing of Lahore Resolution, that was passed on March 23,1940 is celebrated every year.
Labour Day
Labour Day is a national holiday in Pakistan for celebrating the achievements of laborers.
Eid-ul-Fitr Holiday
This is the Muslim’s Religious Festival marking the end of the fast of Ramadan.
Independence Day.
The celebration day of Pakistan Independence from British Rule. This is the national holiday in Pakistan.
Eid-ul-Azha Holiday
Eid-ul-Azha is the Muslim’s Religious Festival, commemorates Hazrat Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son to Allah
Birthday of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah
Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah , the founder of Pakistan is remembered on this day. In his honor a holiday is given countrywide. This holiday coincides with Christmas day, a religious day for christian community worldover and obviously in Pakistan.
Ashura
Ashura is the 10th of Muharram according to the Islamic calendar. Usually both the 9th and 10th Muharram are off days.
Christmas Day
Christmas day is a religious festival of christians in Pakistan. It is celebrated on December 25th every year.
Additional Holidays
Sometimes there are additional holidays, which are not part of the holidays calendar for students but they are just suddenly announced and given by government for different reasons. For example recently in different parts of country spring holidays were given on different dates. So of which we reported like spring holidays in Islamabad and spring holidays in KPK.
